The leaflet we publish below is from the GIS (Gruppe Internationaler Sozialistinnen), one of the few voices of the Communist Left in Germany. It has been distributed during the last G8 summit held in this country and during the demonstrations the latter has provoked. For the essential, we warmly support this revolutionary intervention towards the proletariat, particularly for its clear and radical denunciation of today capitalism. Nevertheless, we have a small regret to express in relation with this leaflet, regret which regards to the perspectives put forwards in front of the proletariat. We don't think they are really adapted to the event and to the situation. The version we give today has been translated by us in English. For the need of diffusion, we introduced some adaptations we submitted to the GIS. |
It is under the cynical title « Economic Growth and Responsibility » that the summit of the G8 is held this year in Heiligendamm, the seaside resort of the Baltic Sea. It's a ritual of the bourgeois dictatorship which is organized up to the least detail : kilometers of security barriers, a huge police presence, searchings house by house and repression for the opponents who are presented as « violent », opposed to the ones who are « constructive in front of globalisation » with their pathetic proposals of dialogue.
Meanwhile, a crowd of political advicers, of experts in public relations and of journalists try to convince the public of the high goals that the chiefs of State and governments being present at the meeting do have. The show of usual propaganda of this kind of summit can't hide the fact that this year the G8 summit is held in a situation of inter-imperialist competition which is more acute and of increasing instability. The barbarous implications of « war against terrorism » in Afghanistan and Iraq, the threath of war against Iran, the impoverishement of all continents and the degradation of the perspectives of life on the planet become apparent. These problems aren't simply the fact of soe politicians and governments but the expression of an international system of competition whose engine is the frantic race for profit which always develops more brutally. « The need of a constantly expanding market for its products chases the bourgeoisie over the entire surface of the globe. It must nestle everywhere, settle everywhere, establish connexions everywhere. The bourgeoisie has through its exploitation of the world market given a cosmopolitan character to production and consumption in every country. To the great chagrin of Reactionists, it has drawn from under the feet of industry the national ground on which it stood. All old-established national industries have been destroyed or are daily being destroyed. They are dislodged by new industries, whose introduction becomes a life and death question for all civilised nations, by industries that no longer work up indigenous raw material, but raw material drawn from the remotest zones; industries whose products are consumed, not only at home, but in every quarter of the globe. In place of the old wants, satisfied by the production of the country, we find new wants, requiring for their satisfaction the products of distant lands and climes. In place of the old local and national seclusion and self-sufficiency, we have intercourse in every direction, universal inter-dependence of nations ». It's what Karl Marx wrote in 1848 giving so a description of what is today commonly called « globalisation ».
This « globalisation » can't be made « softer » through protests and calls to our leaders as believe many of those who participate to the protest movement against globalisation.
International capitalism can't be improved gradually, nor changed in its very essence by pieces. Nor can it be administrated in a human manner. It has to be overthrown in a revolutionary manner by the working class ! This needs other things than the protests which use methods which only excite the medias during the annual summit meeting of the leaders. Above all it's necessary to get a clear vision of the perspectives for a classes struggle beyond the frontiers in order to attack capitalism where it daily reproduces.
The tasks of the revolutionaries is to put forwards the general interests of the working class ; and for that, to support theses struggles, to criticize their limits and to make all to reinforce the consciousness of the salaried and their confidence in their own forces. This requires an organisation framework. According to us, it can't be but a political structure, an international and internationalist revolutionary organisation. International since capitalism can't be fought and overcome but at the international level ; internationalist since the rejection of any national ideology is the first condition for get to class unity ; revolutionary since it's not but by a radical break with capitalism that can be found the perspective not only for living in conditions of human dignity but simply as human beings. The setting up of such an organisation is a long and difficult process. But it is a determining condition for preparing the end of the capitalist cycle of crisis and wars.
